Port-Gentil
Start Planning
Gabon's economic capital, Port-Gentil, stretches for some 15 km along the sea, and is characterized by the many navigable arms of the Ogooué, linked by small rivers that cut through the island of Mandji. A quiet provincial town with many flowers, it comes alive around avenue Savorgnan de Brazza, lined with century-old badamiers, with stores, restaurants, local crafts and markets.
Port-Gentil's turquoise-blue beaches are packed with people every weekend. The most popular places to visit are the Cap Lopez lighthouse for its history, the Church of St. Louis (the oldest architecture), the small islands around (Trois Rivières/ La Case/ La Baie des coquillages) and Omboué and the surrounding area.
